2009 Taichung Jazz Festival
Since its 2003 debut, the Taichung Jazz Festival has successfully fulfilled the desires of music lovers around the island for six years. A wholehearted collaboration between various parties, including detailed planning by the Taichung City Cultural Affairs Bureau, the support of central government and generous sponsorship from the private sector, has helped the Festival emerge as the most popular open-air musical event in the nation. Its rich diversity has not only made it Taichung’s most important annual cultural event but has also solidified Taichung’s image as a cultural city.
The city cultural bureau-founded festival aims to create a rich, unique cultural and artistic ambiance, enhance residents’ cultural appreciation and horizons, and boost the success of the city’s cultural tourism efforts. After years of effort, the event has become a major Taichung musical festivity featuring dazzling, unforgettable performances by some of the world’s most outstanding jazz musicians and groups. Music lovers flock to the festival site to indulge in an abundance of jazz concerts and related affiliated activities, including open-air movies, jazz workshops, exotic food and drink vendors, and a creative marketplace.
The 2009 Taichung Jazz Festival in preparing to present a nine-day non-stop program of inspiring performances, beginning on Oct. 17 (Saturday). Building on the success and enthusiastic response of previous festivals, the year’s organizers aim to create an enjoyable atmosphere that envelops participants in jazz, in keeping with this year’s “Time in Jazz” theme.
